The Mezze Grill (Food Court, Magic Moments Mall, Kirti Nagar, New Delhi)

In a nutshell:

I loved my Mezze platter here after a long list of disappointments in Delhi NCR. I wud say as good as it can get on a food court by current standards in Delhi NCR.

Short Description – In case u r in a hurry:

We chanced upon Magic Moments Mall yesterday & were pleasantly surprised by its interiors – Huge, Glitzy, large open spaces, high ceilings & so on – much better than most Malls in Gurgaon with the exception of Ambience. The Mall hosts a Huge & spacious Reliance Retail outlet (unlike thecluttered & stuffy Ambience Mall Gurgaon one), a huge ‘More’ supermarket, loads of brands, an Ice skating bar, a big kid’s play area etc. The food court named DEL15 was a revelation to me too. I think it is worth a visit to this place even if u do not stay in this part of the city.

Inside Magic Moments Mall Kirtinagar

DEL15, the Food court, is enormous – by enormous I mean enormous. Much bigger than any food court in Gurgaon. The look & feel is new & fresh. It is a mammoth squarish hall with Food counters on 3 of the 4 walls. The furniture is smartly done, lightweight modern chairs / sofas with wooden tables. There seemd to be a planned zoning in DEL15 like in food courts in other countries e.g. Food Republic, Cityplaza,TaikooShing, Hongkong.

For buying food, money has to be paid at a common cash counter – One has to buy Coupons that can be Redeemed at shops. Quite surprisingly, the purchase of coupons is strictly against cash – no debit or credit cards accepted. Though there are some restrictions, I am sure there r ways out of this. Not taking credit card is archaic in today’s world where most office goin youngsters live on cards. I am sure that the Mall owners can find a way out of this system by talking to tax experts.

I noticed quite a few diverse cuisines at the stalls run by Karim’s, Paranthas 21, Berco’s express, KFC, Subway, Haldiram’s, Vaango etc & of course Mezze Grill.

The Guy at counter of Mezze Grill was quite knowledgeable & seemed eager to answer all my questions. Not sure if rest of the staff members are like him / how he might behave in rush hour. Must mention here that we were there at 12.00 noon & the place was quite empty.

As I was talking to him, I noticed a large number of containers on the counter with names written on each. They contained the different dips that r served with Mezz food. I asked about an unusual looking salad & before I understood what was happening, he gave me to taste the salad on a tiny plastic ‘tasting’ spoon. I was feeling a bit shy but he insisted – not expected in food court. He also told me that the Chef is an Indian who has worked in Restaurants of Dubai & learnt the ‘real’ thing.

As we started to decide on what to have we realized that they actually have a huge Menu. We chose the Mezze grill platter as it seemed to be a little bit of lot of things – Chicken Shish Taouk, Mutton CheloKabab, Grilled Fish Kabab, Rotisserie chicken, Chicken bites – all of that served with hummus, muhammara, Tzatziki, babaganoush, rice with gravy & tabouleh salad.

We cud not try the usual Shawarma roll / doner kabab roll as two of us were full after eating a Mezze Grill platter. (Note – Our appetite is average)

Detailed Description – In case u have the time to njoyreadin:

The Muhammara was made with red bell pepper, chillies & walnut paste. It turned out to be a Bright Red sauce & in terms of taste, it was out of the world. Walnut made it thick & gave a super texture. Super Loved this.

Tabouleh was the Mixed green salad that I had tasted earlier at the counter – minced leafy salad bursting with flavors of the leaves. It had a sour tinge & un-uniform taste of masalas, shredded tomatoes, onions & pomegrenade. The Salad was very very good – to the extent that it super-impressed a hardcore carnivore like me.

Tzatziki – This was a curd based dip which is similar in texture to Indian hung curd dishes. It was intense & water-less, good to taste & very enjoyable. This also doubled up as palate cleanser that was surely needed in a platter having so many different flavors & tastes.

Babaganoush (a brinjal / aubergine based dip) was outstanding. Great flavors, smooth texture, no brinjal seeds & very very palatable.

Hummus was good but anonymous makes much better. U can try the same at home & u will b able to make superb hummus as well.

Pita bread was warm, soft & nice.

The fish kabab was awesome, tasty, had a little sour tinge, was juicy & was bursting with flavors. It turned out to be minced fish with spices, made into a tikka & fried like a patty. The tastes & flavors were unexpected but very good to taste as compared to similar looking Indian minced tikkas.

The Mutton chelo kabab was excellent to taste but quite dry in texture. Wud have been great overall if it were juicier- like the beef chelo kababs I have had in other parts of the world – LaLa Rokh Boston USA or Persian room Arizona USA & mutton chelo kabab at Kolkata Peter Cat, to name a few. At Mezze Grill the Flavors were as good as they cud get with mutton.

The chicken Shish taouk was unputdownable – my hands were on auto mode constantly transporting stuff from the plate to the mouth.

Chicken bites was soft, very subtle & quite good. A bit juicier wud have been better but it was good as it is as well. I enjoyed this chicken with the muhammara & also with the babaganoush.

Rotisserie chicken was good with subtle flavors – better than many places in Delhi & Gurgaon. Liked it as it is & also with the dips.

Rice with gravy was the only ordinary item in the platter. The rice had long independent strands but were suboptimally soft. The gravy was a bit tomatoeee but not bad.

Overall – Loved the experience & look forward to revisiting.

  1. Hi Yummraj..The non-acceptance of credit card in food-courts where pre-paid cards are used are as per RBI directives wherein the Food-Court has no option but to abide by the same. The guideline says that credit-card can be used to reddem your food-card but one cannot redeem the same in cash. Your statement was a bit harsh on DEL15 and would request you to withdraw your remark. Looking forward to your future visits.

    1. Hi Manoj, I am sure there are alternatives to that. What if the individual shops sell their own merchandize & accept money in card / cash? There are 3 shops which do that anyway. Why not the rest? What if people are supposed to get estimates from the food counters & then stand at the common counter & pay cash / card & get back to the stall with the invoice to get their food. I am sure there are so many ways out – maybe a tax consultant can help you.

  2. Hi yummraaj! 😀
i’ve been going through your site and you seem to have visited most of the top and mid restaurants and lounges. I am planning to celebrate my 19th birthday with my close buddies, around 10 people. My preferred timing is from 2~5pm. Can you suggest me some good lounges where I can book a party space having music, non-alcoholic beverages and yummy teen foods. My budget is around 7k.
