Zambar (South Indian Nonvegetarian – Ambience Mall Gurgaon)

In a nutshell:

Pretty cool south Indian non vegetarian restaurant (veg also available)

Address & other details: Zambar

Meal for 2: Rs. 600 onwards

Short Description – in case u r in a hurry:

The interiors of this restaurant look like a traditional Kerala houseboat……food is pretty cool, serving staff is OK OK……. moody, inconsistent, sometimes very sweet, very cold at other times.

Food is good specially the non veg platter & sea food platter. Rest we found Ok Ok. Few people have written in reviews in diff food sites (tripadvisor & Zomato) that they have fallen unwell after eating veg food here. We have eaten Nonvegetarian few times – Never had any health issues. Just thought wud let u guys know.

Detailed Description – In case u have the time to enjoy reading:

Went to Zambar last week of july after our first visit about 3 months back. Rediscovered the place.Had heard from someone that they have a good nonvegetarian thali. So we went for the Thali & ended up eating something even better + also the thali.

The something else was ‘seafood platter’ – A marvellous lipsmacking subtly spiced curry leaf fishfry, a very good prawn kothmiera (green marination) & a tasty prawn vepudu (red marination)+ a superb fish baked in banana leaf – pearl spot pollichatu. What was great was that each had its own individual taste & flavor, All had very optimally cooked seafood – Excess cooking could have stiffened it up.

Then we went for the ‘seafood thali’ – Apart from 3 non veg curries of very distinct flavors (fish, crab meat & prawns) , there was ponni rice – u cud smell the good coconut flavor in it, plain rice with the flaky red chillies, a very delicious poriyal & a sweet dish. Surely recommended.

There are vegetarian & non vegetarian (meats in place of seafood) thalis also which I have heard good praises from some of my friends. Will update as soon as we revisit to try.

Good try

  1. Sounds good!! Good Keralite restaurants are always in short supply…even though the cuisine is really good…

    1. Agree, ot too many good Kerala Restaurants arond.Still cannot forget the outstanding taste of food that we had in a houseboat in Kerala 11 years back!!!!!

  2. I hope you tried the “chicken chettinad and malabar paratha” combination. The fresh, melt in mouth malabar parathas and the delicious aromatic chicken chettinad is absolutely superb in there. The spices in the chicken are not ovewhelming, the chicken is nice and tender and the malabar paratha just add to the brilliance of the dish. A must try, i say 🙂
