That evening we walked into an amazing aroma all over this tiny restaurant. There were a total of only 5 tables & Chef OM was working on his laptop sitting in one of the 5. Not that I know him but the name OM was written on his shirt & the menu card mentioned that OM was the name of the Chef.

The planning of food was excellent, ingredients were excellent. There was an honesty and effort to give the best to diners. But somewhere execution of the dishes lacked a master’s touch. If u read my posts on Pintxo (Sushmit Daniels), Prego @ Westin, ( the Italian chef whose name I forgot), Indian accent ( Manish mehrotra) etc, u will know what I am saying.

An active monitoring and even cooking by the Chef in Charge makes a hell of a difference. In the places mentioned above, the chefs come to all tables and talk to customers. That also results in recommendation that suits the preferences of the customer. This personal touch of excellence was totally missing in Pasta bowl company as Chef was busy with his work & the kitchen boys did what best they cud. …………………. this shud otherwise b none of my business but I just thought I wud mention this so that the restaurant starts its journey from Good to Great.

The restaurant had an open kitchen. One cud see that sitting in the dining area. That is also the reason of the aroma. However I guess vegetarians might not really enjoy when some meat / sea food  is being fried over there.

The menu card was really cool – both in terms of content & also the look & feel. There were cool cartoons & funky fonts were being used to describe the items on the menu. The menu card read ‘Summer monsoon 2014 menu’ – wow so the menu card wud change with season ??? surely it is a concept I do not remember seeing in too many Indian restaurants so far.

Food was good in general but not outstanding. Directionally some of them were outstanding but faced executional issues.

Detailed Description – In case u have the Time to NJOY reading:

We started our evening with Gamberi Mariniati…… The Prawn was very soft and juicy& it had very nice flavour of garlic and basil. Salt in the dish was very low, almost absent. I added back a bit of salt and suddenly the dish sprang back to life. Wud rate it 4.25/5 with added salt but rate it 3/5 the way it was served.

The lasagne and ravioli section menu card read ‘we make these pasta from scratch twice a day and we throw away extra. If we finish early we just say ‘sorry it us sold out’. That was quite interesting.

We then ordered Peppered goat cheese crostini. Goat cheese usually has a strong distinctive flavor. That was somewhere lost in this dish. Pepper corn quality was outstanding.

Its flavours were too good. Basil leaf added flavor. The bread base was good but I hv had way better base. Overall it was good but not outstanding. Rate it 3/5

We moved on to TPBC Ravioli. The Ravioli was very nice. Actually it’s sauce was brilliant. We had to ask for spoons just to polish off the sauce. The ravioli was stuffed with spinach.

Felt just the texture of spinach but not really the taste. I guess in winters when spinach will b fresher, this dish will taste a lot better.

Rate the sauce 4.5/5. Rate just the ravioli 3.5/5. Overall dish rated at 4/5.

We ordered Friutti di Basco. Drink almost like dessert. Tasted like jam in milk shake. Not fresh berries. However pretty good taste and served in perfect temperature. A bit on the borderline of being over sweet. Kid stuff i wud say. Rate it 3/5.

Lamb lasagne was flattering. My taste buds rose up in pure appreciation – They gave the lasagne a standing ovation. Layers & layers of pure bliss.

The sauce was really YUMM as well. We polished of the sauce as well in such a way that the dish washer wud have given us lots of dua…. Rate it 4.75/5. This dish I wud say is unmissable in this restaurant.

For dessert we had Mango Pana Cotta. Smooth, very strong flavor of mango , perfectly sweet. Loved it. Rate it 4/5

Overall rating of Food & beverages at Pasta Bowl company averages out to 3.6/5. Inspite of the relatively low score I wud still like to venture out into this restaurant again due to the sheer intrinsic strength of the menu, the choice of best ingerdients & directionally good recipes – hoping that the food wud not suffer from as many executional problems as the first time.
