Short description- in case u r in a hurry

We came to know of this place by reading a wonderful post on best beef dishes in kolkata at moha-mushkil.com. To top it up, the blogger behind the site, Indrajit, offered to join us there.

So super excited, one Wednesday morning we decided to visit the shop with the two of our fellow foodies Indrajit and Anirban.

We had a great meal and a great food chat with our server ‘chacha’ getting us the food one after the other.

As we sat and looked at the fading menu card on the wall, we realized not everything is served in the morning. So I guess we ended up ordering everything that was available at that time !!!!

The interiors were spartan and fairly neat and clean. It was a fairly large dining hall that could seat 40 people at a time.

Near the entrance a guy was constantly making poori. For those who might not know, poori halwa is a delicacy in many such shops.

Towards the end of the dining hall I could see the tandoor where a guy was constantly churning out piping hot tandoori rotis.

Food was generally very good – rustic, mostly robust , some were oil dropping, others were not – but surely very YUMM.

Detailed description – in case u hv the time to njoy reading:

Good news is that in West Bengal beef still is cow (not buffalo like in delhi and mumbai). Hence taste is way better.

Beef chaap was outstanding- robust, rustic flavours and outstanding taste of gravy. Loved the soft well cooked meat and overall delightful. One of the best chaap I have had in a while. Rate it 4.75/5.

Beef istu (stew) was a relatively lighter gravy without the obvious oil oozing out from all over. Both Spices and meat flavours made their presence felt. The meat was soft and nice. Loved the gravy. Rate it 4.25/5

Bheja – this was way better than what we have had at Karim’s, Jama Masjid, delhi. The texture was firm, a bit creamy and very enjoyable. Perfect seasoning. Rate it 4.5/5

Khiri (udder) gurda (kidney) curry was very good. It had the obvious floating oil but the taste made it calorie worthy. I Wud rather eat it and work out more for a week than not eat it. The curry tasted very good. We polished off the gravy till the last drop. The pieces were soft and very nice. Rate it 4.5/5

We enjoyed the above with tandoori roti and Puri.

Loved The fermented flavor of the piping hot Kadak (crisp) roti as it was placed on the table.

The poori was very nice too.

Halwa Puri was a revelation. It was soft maida Puri with halwa in the center. Loved the taste and texture. As good as it cud get with the perfect sweet (from halwa) and salt (from poori) balance. Way better than I expected it to be. Rate it 4.5/5

Overall , a memorable meal

Wud get back there during the day/evening to try their other dishes
