Short description – in case u r in a hurry:

We called a day before to ask what time the shop opens in the morning. The guy at the other end said 5.59AM!!!

crowd outside

We Drove 9 km in the morning to have breakfast here.

They are still in the good old days – serving good food at good prices, overflowing with customers (which any restaurant can just dream of), and a middle aged man screaming ‘no photography’ – as if a little more word of mouth and publicity wud hurt them. Or r they so arrogant they they r not bothered about a little more word of mouth. Or r they scared that someone will photograph a rat or a cockroach in the kitchen!!!! Else why on earth shud someone hv a problem with photographs. Maybe the next generation wud b more sensible.

no photograohy announcement in process!!!

Near the entrance there is usually a queue that leads to 2 counters where customers pay and get a token. People at the counter are super fast. So the queue moves fast.

queue

Customers then present the token to the food counter. Food is handed over at the counter and customer is expected to hold it in one hand and eat with the other. No table to keep it on and eat standing.

There was No sambhar.

There was a chutney counter where the guy was constantly refilling as many helpings of chutney.

Detailed description – in case u hv the time to njoy reading:

Idly chutney – the idly was placed on the chutney and served in a stainless steel small plate. The idly was very good as it is, on its own but I have surely had better at Murugan idly chennai. Rate the idly 4/5.

Idly chutney

Chutney was however outstanding. It was runny but had a punch in terms of both flavor and taste. Unmissable , unforgettable. Rate the chutney 4.75/5

Idly chutney combo was fabulous. overall rating of the dish averages out to 4.4/5

Medu Vada idly

We then tried Medu Vada as it is and with the same chutney. The taste of urad dal in the Vada cud b felt. The inside was super soft and fluffy. Outside was brilliantly crisp. There were no add ons to the Vada like pepper etc. Loved it both ways. Rate it 4.75/5

Medu Vada

Khara bath was a gem. It was perfectly balanced in terms of flavor of spices , overall taste. It was not loud but everything was just right. An occasional burst of green chilly in the mouth was a welcome change. Rate this 4.5/5

Khara bath

Kesari Bath was a sweet made from semolina/rawa/ sooji interspersed with sewai (vermicelli) and nuts. We cud feel the ghee in it. It was very good. Rate it 4/5

Kesari Bath

Filter coffee was being made in the traditional filter and poured in glasses. Then boiling sweetened milk was being poured into the glasses and served. I asked for strong. The drink was moderate strong and very good.

filter coffee

The one I had 2 nights before at coffee plantation green pastures, Belur was way better. Rate this coffee 4/5
