Short Description – in case u r in a hurry:

YUMMRAJ ate his life’s first Beef dish here 2.5 decades back, loved the food & kept going there for few years. And then there was a long gap. Few months ago a super foodie & master bartender, Yangdup  raved about this place. That ignited something within & YUMMRAJ was back again after a 2 decade gap.

The place had transformed from a dark, not so well maintained Dhaba kind of eatery to a neat & clean , tiled wall , brightly lit restaurant. Got to know from the waiter that the restaurant was renovated a couple of years back.

What has remained constant in all these years was the awesomeness of food in general.

Those days with pocket money of a student, YUMMRAJ & friends wud have beef rolls & occasionally a beef bhuna with paratha. Do not even remember having biryani here. Was pleasantly surprised to know that they sell Biryani.

Waiting staff were normal people who knew very well about the dishes available. The guy in charge of our table was very helpful in choosing the dishes.

The restaurant did not seem to have a menu card. Menu was not written on the wall as well. The waiter rattled out the menu.

The key attraction is Biryanis & Mughlai Curries. For lunch they do not serve kababs & rolls – those r sold in the evening. They even have on their menu Bengali food like dal, bhaja, torkari, aloo bhatey, maach bhaja, macher jhol etc. The latter is more directed towards the Bangladeshi tourists staying in Free School street & coming to this place to dine out.

They do not serve desserts as well. We had to do with Maaza.

Detailed Description – In case u have the Time to NJOY reading:

Beef rolls were my favorite 20 yrs bk & still lingers in my memory. But unfortunately they did not seve rolls during lunch time. We went back next evening to hear that temporarily beef rolls were not available & wud start after Bakri Id. Bad luck I wud say.

We also ordered Beef bhuna. It was intense, robust, rustic, awesome tasty dry gravy with small, soft, YUMM beef pieces. Super loved it & rate it 4.75/5

Mutton biryani was a revelation. It was as good or better than the famous Arsalan. It had Super soft melt in the mouth, independent long grains of aromatic rice, excellent aloo – good non sweet potato used and that tasted awesome.

The aloo Infused well with the flavor of biryani. Mutton pieces were just awesome. Soft, intense flavours and excellent to taste. Rate it not a grade less than 4.5/5

We also ordered Mutton curry & that was very good. It had a strong taste of mutton in the gravy. The spices & the meat had amalgamated pretty well. The mutton pieces cud have been a tad softer. Rate it 4.25/5

In the absence of dessert we had to do with 1 small maaza. Total bill was Rs. 220. The waiter did not give a bill – hence I am unable to produce that as a proof.

Needless to say I will keep revisiting this place. Wud strongly suggest that u try this out.
