Short description- in case u r in a hurry

We heard of Ross omelet before our trip to Goa but we had no clue of what it was. At Taj exotica breakfast we were excited to see Ross omelet on the menu but after a first bite we knew this couldn’t be the real thing. No dish as bad as that could be popular. Will explain later how the Taj one was different than the one at Gopal Ross omelet.

The real Ros omelet
This was served to us at Taj Exotica in name of Ros omelet

What we understood after reaching the stall is that Ross omelet is essentially ‘something’ in a gravy. The something can be an omelet or chicken (any piece) or Chicken legs or mutton or even vegetables or anything else.

The word Ros comes from the Konkani word Ros which means ‘gravy’.

A side view of the cart

The cart had no name. But it was constantly full. There was seating for about 10 people behind the cart. A table in the center & benches all around – dine with strangers.

We sat in one of the benches & enjoyed our food with people we met for the first time ever. Some were regulars . Others were like us.

They are all listed on Zomato .

Detailed description – in case u hv the time to njoy reading:

We started with a Chicken Broth soup in a glass (with bones in it). We were pleasantly shocked at the robust flavours of meat in the broth.

The guys at Gopal Ross Omelette surely have better soup making skills than most restaurants I have had soups in the past few years in india – either the restaurants add corn starch in soups or they add additional flavours. Only a rare few celebrate the flavours of the meat & bones as well as it was done by this food cart stall.

The soup was served in transparent glass glasses & we could see the pieces of bones at the base.

Robust, rustic & simply brilliant. Flavours of bones & meat were almost the only flavours. Rate it 4.75/5

We asked for a Ros omelet & also a Ros mutton dish.

This was served to us with poi (a kind of Goan bread baked at local bakeries)

The Ross omelet with omelet was really fun to eat. The gravy was common with that of the chicken. So the omelet had been dunked in chicken gravy & served.

I would simply say it’s a Rockstar of a dish.

The omelet retained its fluffiness, juiciness & softness. The chicken gravy did magic to the omelet. The gravy had some spices, scraped coconut & had been cooked along with chicken. So the flavours of the chicken also were very well absorbed in the gravy. Rate this 4.75/5

The mutton dish was again very very good. The meat was super soft & nice to munch on. Small pieces helped in cooking the meat to a perfect texture. The flavours of egg meat and incorporated in the gravy very well. Rate it 4.5/5

Overall rating of food at Gopal Ross Omelet averages out to 4.7/5

Polished off every bit of the gravy (as much possible with spoon)

Love it & would love to go back again during our next trip to Goa.

  1. Is it possible to substitute pork for mutton in a Chapli Kebab?

And if yes Could you please guide what might be the pitfalls to avoid while using pork
