Kobe Sizzlers ( 3rd Floor, Ambience Mall, Gurgaon)

In a nutshell:

Better than most sizzler places in Delhi NCR but nowhere near to the real taste & flavours of similar food that u get in Europe / USA.

Address & other details: Kobe Sizzlers

Meal for 2: Rs. 800 onwards

Cuisine type: vegetarian & nonvegetarian

Short Description – in case u r in a hurry:

For the uninitiated, Kobe refers to cuts of beef from a certain species of cattle, raised according to strict tradition in Hyōgo Prefecture, Japan. The meat is generally considered to be a delicacy, renowned for its flavour, tenderness, and fatty, well-marbled texture. This happens to be one of the most expensive meats in the world.

When Kobe Sizzlers of Mumbai opened shop in Gurgaon for the first time few years back, we were exited. A quick visit to Kobe gave mixed reactions – It was surely better than most other sizzler places around, including Peter Cat of Park Street Kolkata. However, when it came to the sauces, the right flavours, herbs, texture of steamed veggies etc, this one was shades below its Global counterparts. Must mention here that the prices at Kobe r cheaper than the others I am referring to.

The restaurant is well designed – visually. Functionally, it is a bit too crammed, to the extent that u can definitely hear 100% of the discussion on the next table. I guess there is no alternative as space is limited & people throng here all the while – queues r often to b seen.

Dining Hall of the restaurant
Dining Hall of the restaurant

The air inside is usually filled with strong burnt smell of sizzlers which is good for carnivores like us but might not b very enjoyable to vegetarians. Sound of sizzlers & the smoke coming out from it make up for the mood of this place.

This is a place good to go, eat & get out. Not really a fine dining place, not a dating place either but a kind of ‘eat good food & spend chatting time elsewhere’ kinda place.

Some members of the staff are Old School true blue restaurant Stewards & that makes the experience quite nostalgic at times. Rest of the guys appeared to b modern day restaurant waiters who r doing this for earning a living & might move on to say a Shopper’s Stop in the next job jump.

Food Republic (Cityplaza, Taikoo Shing, Hongkong)

An Indian foodie’s experience at a Specialized Asian Food court in HongKong

In a nutshell:

It’s a great concept place planned perfectly where u can sample food from all Asian countries & different kinds of cuisines within a country as well.

Food Republic – Asian Speciality Food Court at City Plaza Taikoo Shing, Hongkong

Meal for 2: HK$ 80 onwards

Cuisine Type: Vegetarian & Nonvegetarian

Description:

I was wandering in City Plaza Mall in Taikoo Shing, Hongkong, when I noticed a huge corner with food stalls. The foodie in me cud not resist & I walked in. I started looking around at the stalls soon to realize that it was a well-planned & nicely laid out food court.

The Design of the food court was uniform for all stalls – in terms of size, façade, Shop fronts etc. This was quite different than the over-cluttered multicolored multi sized facades of stalls in Food courts in India.

Food Republic at City Plaza

What impressed me was the fact that the Mall Guys have actually planned the renting out of stalls to ensure that all Countries & the cuisines of Asia (sans Indian subcontinent) are represented. The shops included a Japanese open live teppanyaki counter, a Chicken rice counter (Singapore), a Noodle & congee shop, a Japanese wazen shop – what was been sold here looked like a lunch box (bento box), a Vietnam stall with many ‘pho’ dishes – of diff varieties like chicken, duck, beef, seafood etc, a Chinese stir fry, a Thai stall, a traditional rice noodle house, a ‘in-house made’ Japanese udon noodles stall, a Shanghai & Sichuan counter, a Korean counter, a Dimsum house & a shop selling Taiwanese food. There is a dessert shop as well. I guess it will take a month for a person to xplore all the shops & may be 6 months to try all dishes sold at these shops.

The first shop on the right was Bread Talk that we have at Spencer’s Gurgaon. Till I saw this I had no idea that this Bakery shop in Gurgaon was an International Chain.

I must say – amazing variety, amazing planning & great execution & popularity shows – The Food court is always full at meal time.

Some stalls had almost real looking plastic look-alikes of the food that was on offer.

Some others had all their real roasted food on display.

In case u r visiting Hongkong & want to have a taste of Hongkong & other Asian Countries, get to this place. I wud not say that the food served here is the best in their respective category but they are surely good.

Chili’s (Ambience Mall, Gurgaon, Ambience Mall Vasant Kunj, Delhi)

This post is co-written by YUMMRAJ & Guest Blogger Neha Manchanda

In a nutshell:

A very interesting place to have some good Tex Mex food in delhi / Gurgaon in an ambience that is no different from the ones in the North of America.

Address & other Details: Chili’s

Meal for 2: Rs. 500 onwards (without drinks)

Cuisine Type: Vegetarian & Nonvegetarian

the nice colorful interiors

Short Description – In case u r in a hurry:

The look & feel of the interiors of the restaurant is same as u wud come across in North America. The wooden sofa / chair seating, the beautiful red & white designed tabletops, the numerous funny & not so funny but smart posters on the wall & so on. For 4 – 6 diners there were sofas & there were plenty of table-chairs for couples. Loved the concept.

the red bright table-tops

One of the posters said ‘I want my baby back ribs’ but sadly those were not being served. I loved the buffalo wings wall post.

However, unlike the Delhi & Gurgaon ones, most of the American ones are not in Malls but are standalone.

Trio filling for Fajitas – chicken, shrimps & tenderloin

The guys on service are very good, polite, warm & quite friendly as well.

The menu card was colorful & was full of excellent photographs of food.

We decided to stick to ‘Mex’ (Mexican) & our friend & Guest Blogger Neha decided to try ‘Tex’ (Food from Texas, USA) as well.

Prawn Jambalaya

We liked the food & wud surely get back. Not at par with the stand-alone Tex Mex restaurants in Southern part of USA but quite good on its own – given that its a restaurant chain.

Huge 3D poster on the wall

Good alternate to TGIF which is quite good itself.

mixed grilled meats & shrimp

Pricing here is quite interesting – Food is quite cheap but drinks are just the opposite. e.g. A trio fajita (read details below)that can fill up 2 people for an evening snack is for Rs. 400 whereas a margarita is for Rs. 350. So u pay Rs. 700 for 2 drinks & only Rs. 400 for a meal that totally fills u up!!!!
