In a nutshell:
A ‘super popular’ cool café that stands out of the crowd with their Hollywood inspired interiors & menu, has pretty efficient crowd management systems & good service. They serve pretty Good food as well – though not the best…………………. NJOY reading YUMMRAJ’s take on the food at Big Chill

Short Description – in case u r in a hurry:
It’s a cool hangout zone for the young. An empty dining hall is a rare sight at this place. Infact, the waiting time for dining at this restaurant can go up to even 30-40 minutes at peak hours. The good thing is that they manage the waiting pretty well in a city where even standing in a queue / driving in a lane seems insulting to quite a section of the population. The guys here r pretty strict about the order of names in their list & they flatly refuse people who try to act smart & get a slimy ‘cut the queue’ entry.

The interiors r very attractive & set this place apart. The walls r full of huge posters of Hollywood movies of yesteryear’s (painted look) as well as some relatively modern movies (photograph look).

The menu card is massive & has endless items listed in it. Descriptions & occasional pictures follow each item in the menu. The menu is extremely chicken heavy. Very Few dishes of fish, prawn & lamb are there.

The service staff is pretty efficient, fast, sharp & r endlessly running around to keep up to the pressure of the peak hour. They seem to know well about the food they r serving & know their job pretty well.

Food is generally good & seldom bad. It is seldom ‘outstanding’ as well. Portions r large, in case that excites u.

Detailed Description – In case u have the Time to NJOY reading:
We started our lunch with non veg. Antipasti Platter – It consisted of Marinated grilled prawns, marinated sautéed mushrooms, ham, olives, sundried tomatoes, mixed bell peppers, broccoli & other sautéed greens, onions & a super duper white creamy dip.

The marinated grilled prawns were excellent. Not rubbery like most other prawns in Delhi, slightly juicy & soft, immensely flavorful & YUMM.

The ham was very good

The veggies & bell pepper were crunchy & nice in terms of texture & were tasty as well.

Loved the sautéed mushrooms for their taste & supple texture.

I give this dish an overall 4.5/5

Post the amazing starter we moved on to Risotto with four cheese & bacon. The cheese were Cheddar, Edam, Gouda, Mozzarella & the dish was finished with cream & parmesan. It was good but not great. It lacks finesse & subtle nuances / twists. The four cheeses cud have really spun magic on the taste buds but they failed to do so. Bacon was also too little & one had to ‘fish for it’. I give this dish a 3.5/5.

The next dish we had was Chicken Florentine – ‘Succulent breast of chicken stuffed with a creamy spinach & mushroom filling & grilled to perfection’ read the menu card description.

In reality however the Chicken breast was far from succulent – it was plain Dry, fibrous & non juicy. Spinach was also dry as well. The mushrooms were the only saving grace in the dish. I rate this at 2/5.

For dessert we had Squidgy Chocolate Mousse cake which the menu card described as ‘Soft & moist chocolate cake filled with mousse & fresh cream & topped with devilishly delicious dark chocolate ganache’. The menu card also mentions ‘an original Big Chill creation, this cake is the closest thing to paradise for chocolate lovers’.

Well, I have surely had better at L’Opera & also at Chokola but this one was very good on its own. It did not look as impressive when served but a bite into it reversed the thought. Dark, intense, condensed & somewhat soft chocolate with mousse & moist cake. Loved it & rate it 4.25/5

Overall rating for food at The Big Chill adds up to 3.6/5. I wud keep going there when I happen to b in the vicinity but I wud not really drive from home just to dine there.

The effort you put in your reviews I really appreciate it. Not many people in our country would care to write a review but the Zomato culture brings new promise.
Thanks for your kind words
