Short description- in case u r in a hurry:

We read about this eatery in a blog and decided to pay a visit. The gentleman whose cab we hired, also recommended this place. That was added assurance.

The restaurant is on the first floor of a building on the main road but the signage is very well visible.

The interiors of the restaurant are basic and nice. On the walls r framed photos of people from Coorg, traditional weapons , dance accessories etc.

The owner himself was present at the restaurant and we enjoyed a small chat with him. He says when he opened this restaurant 12 years back, there was no authentic Coorg food restaurant here and the place was full of usual touristy restaurant s serving everything from chicken tikka and tandoori roti to Malabar parota and mutton Sukka. He stuck to the cuisine and did not budge to requests and suggestions to have some other food as well.

The guy serving us was great to talk to. He patiently took us thru the menu and made some good suggestions.

We loved the food.

Detailed description- in case u hv the time to njoy reading:

We started our meal with Bamboo shoot fry. It was a nice curry with strong flavours of bamboo shoot. Rate it 4.25/5

Pandi curry – this one was spot on. Intense, robust, rustic and just too good. The pieces of pork was not too large and had the right amount of fat. The meat pieces Wud feel awesome due to the amount if fat…The curry had daanedaar masala and fat at the bottom. The taste was perfect and very enjoyable – as good as it cud get in a commercial establishment. Rate it 4.75/5

Bamboo shoot pork curry was something that interested us. Bamboo shoot made its intense flavor felt and so did pork. This curry was way less oily than the Pandi curry. Flavours and intensity was less , very different yet very nice. Rate it 4.5/5

We also tried Mutton fry. This was excellent – small pieces of mutton stir fried with local masalas. The meat was soft and chewy and really nice. Inspite of good amount of masalas, the meat retained its flavours. Rate this dish 4.5/5

We enjoyed all the above with Akki roti – rice roti and Rice ball.

Akko rotis were soft and textured. The edges were crispy and that was good.

The rice balls had a grainy texture , were harder than idly, did not have the fermented feel of idly and were good. Loved those.

Fresh lime honey was made with honey from Coorg forests. Loved it. Refreshing and nice. Rate it 4/5

Passion fruit juice from fruit harvested in the region was made from scratch. It was a bit sweeter than optimum but had full blown flavours and taste. Rate it 4.25/5

Overall rating of food at Coorg cuisine averages out to 4.4/5

Look forward to revisiting

  1. I had an opposite experience to you. All the pork dishes were undercooked and tough as leather. The service was sullen and the food just about average.

  2. dada I think the articles are not sorted date wise when we open yummraj.com..the july articles are not coming up
