Short description- in case u r in a hurry:
We decided to eat out here one evening while at alibaug. We were looking for authentic Marathi cuisine.
The interiors were beautifully done
I remember the bullock cart outside the restaurant
Menu card was long with detailed description of the dishes
Loved the food
Detailed description- in case u hv the time to njoy reading:
As we sat, we were given shots of sol kadhi, Aam Panna and buttermilk
Sol kadhi was a bit sweetish than the thali restaurants of mumbai. It was thick and flavourful. The coconut milk was a bit more and that reduced the punch of a regular sol Kadhi. However it was a very nice drink. Rate it 4/5
Aam panna was a bit more sweet than ideal but it was very refreshing. Rate it 4/5
Buttermilk was very nice. Great taste. Perfect balance of sour and salt. Rate it 4.5/5
Then they gave us Fried papad with 4 chutneys
Coconut green chutney was dry, thick, intense and very good. Rate it 4.25/5
Green chilly chutney – we polished off one portion and got a refill!!! Rate it 4.95/5
Tomato chutney was very good but not as good as its other brilliant Brethen. Rate it 4/5
Red chilly chutney was very enjoyable as well. Rate it 4.5/5
We ordered Kale mutton sukke. The meat was full flavoured, bold, soft and chewy. Loved the spices and the way they merged with the meat. Rate it 4.5/5
Waran (dal) was outstanding. Simple, home like, thick, flavourful and just too good. Rate it 4.75/5
Tender coconut and cashew curry was excellent. Both cashew and tender coconut was very soft. The curry was excellent. Rate it 4.5/5
For dessert we had Modak. It was thicker than the best outside but had a very good filling. Not too sweet, flavours of ghee. We were given liquid ghee to pour on top of the modak. Rate it 4.25/5
Overall rating of food at kokum and spices averages out to 4.4/5
