Short description- in case u r in a hurry
We got to know of this restaurant while reading reviews on zomato. So decided to try out this place during our day trip to pune.
The location is off the main road and there was no signage near the main road. So we had to ask to get directions.
The restaurant was on the first floor of the building. Starting from the staircase, there were elements of South Indian temples and homes.
Beautiful paintings adorned the walls inside.
The lighting was dim. So pics r good enough to give you a sense of the food but in general not good pics.
Service was warm and memorable. The gentleman serving us spoke about the restaurant and the menu with so much passion and authority – it was unparalleled
He also helped us finalise the menu.
Menu card was like a hard bound book. It had detailed description of dishes.
We got to know that the owners of this restaurant have another restaurant in Tamil Nadu. In pune they serve South Indian food and in Tamil Nadu they serve Marathi food!!!!
Food was great – they had high standard to everything that they served.
Detailed description- in case u hv the time to njoy reading:
Mutton uppu curry was mind blowing good. The mutton pieces were super soft, melt in the mouth. The flavours of meat merged amazing well with that of the spices. Perfect seasoning. Rate it 4.75.5
Fish in banana leaf. This again was brilliant. We have had so many versions of fish in banana leaf from different states of india but this one was unique. It had spices, onions and a big piece of super fresh fish that was flaky and absolutely juicy. Full of flavours of fish and the marination. Rate it 4.5/5
Prawn with banana flower was a dish that we ordered with a lot of hope. However, it turned out to b very good, but not outstanding. Loved the curry the way it was but the banana flowers did not make their presence felt at all. Not sure if that is how this dish is supposed to be but would have been good to have a bit more presence (the other extreme being Oriya, Bengali and Assamese banana flower dishes where the taste is predominantly of the flower, inspite of addition of shrimps at time).
Prawns were good and tasty- as fresh as they cud get in pune. rate it 4/5
Bun parota was a parota that looked roundish like a bun, had the best flavours of ghee, super duper layery ( like there were millions of layers ), the outer layers were absolutely crisp and as we dug more into the thick parota, the softness increased. Outstanding, somewhat unparalleled. Rate it 4.75/5.
For dessert we ordered Ambhalapuzha Payasam. It was very average. The rice was not as soft as it should have been, the sweetness was not too high but above optimal, the ‘pak’ of the dish was missing. What I mean by pak is the point where the milk , rice and sweetener optimally mix after long slow cooking. Rate it 2.5/5
Watermelon and tulsi mojito was very good but not as great as the other drink. Tulsi cud not however give the expected twist. It ended up being a great watermelon drink. Rate it 4/5
Vasantha neer- Lemon and coconut water drink. Very very interesting. We Wud not hv ordered had it not been recommended by our server. It had beautifully retained the flavor of coconut water and taste of lemon. Rate it 4.5/5
Overall rating of food and beverages averages out to
Wud surely like to revisit
Such a thorough, beautiful review! Looking forward to visiting the place the next time i go to pune!
Thanks:)
