Short description- in case u r in a hurry
We got to know of this cafe from our friends – so we decided to walk in, on a nice March evening. It was not as hot as the hotter months here are. So outdoor seating was a good option.
The restaurant is situated inside an old building that has beautiful period architecture.
There is a pillared landing, followed by many steps. Guests were constantly posing on that staircase for pictures. I noticed that the group of people sitting in the backdrop were quite not enjoying this bit. So I decided not to click the staircase & pillar from the front (kind of you see in TownHall at mumbai fort).
As we walked in, we came across an open area with beautiful seating arrangement. A visual delight.
Our server was a warm & nice guy who was quite helpful in zeroing down on the order.
The menu card was detailed & had good description of the dishes.
We had lunch a few hours back – so we stuck to drinks & snacks.
Like we mentioned above – the food was very good but the best in the category (in india) are better than here.
Detailed description – in case u hv the time to njoy reading:
Classic beef burger was good – it had an outstanding meat patty that was juicy, full of meaty flavors, was perfectly cooked & great to taste. Just the patty rating would be 4.5/5
The bun was good but a bit dry. Rate the bun 3/5
Overall the burger tasted very good but we have surely had better. Rating of the burger averages out to 3.75/5
Mason & co hot chocolate was really nice. It was not as dark as I would have liked it but it was pretty good. The viscosity of the drink was just right – thin enough to be slurped, thick enough to give that magical mouth feel. Rate it 3.5/5
Lemon meringue was really nice. Loved the balance of the lemony cream & the rest – the balance of sweet, tart, salt & also the balance of textures. The cream on top was outstanding. Rate it 4.5/5
Mellow yellow was a superb refreshing drink with a fabulous taste, great balance & a nice texture. Loved every drop of it. Rate it 4.5/5
Masala tea – we were told that this will come separate, black tea & milk. Though it sounded strange, we agreed – we imagined the black masala brewed tea that is available at starbucks india (Assam tea leaves brewed with full spices, served in a pot, milk separate).
However what came was a dip tea!!! What a fall in expectations – hot water with a masala tea dip in it, milk on the side. Rate this 2/5
Overall rating of food & beverages we had at coromandel cafe averages out to 3.5/5
Will surely revisit ….. if not to explore good food, but to enjoy the ambience / catch up with friends .
