Short description- in case u r in a hurry
It’s been a custom for the last few years – when we go to kolkata, we check with food blogger, food writer, TV show artist & popularly known as foodka, Indrajit Lahiri – on What’s new or what’s new in the city that he has discovered.
So we decided to meet on a Sunday for breakfast at Shiraz – I have had lunch here before & had found it good but not great. Anyway, went here to have breakfast with an open mind.

As we got off from our car, we saw a long line of Enfield bullet bikes parked in front of the restaurant. As we entered the restaurant, we realized it was a favorite spot for bikers.

As we stood inside the dining hall, we realized it was full. We got a seat at the only empty table in the dining hall.
The decor was simple. Sets of tables with seating of 4, back to back.

The waiting staff had been around from years. They had a chilled , effortless look in them. They were constantly working but they did not seem to express that.
The gentleman who served us, rattled all the dishes that were available in the morning.

We tried I guess all the dishes available in the morning.
Loved the breakfast here. Like I said, the menu is different from the day menu. We have had these dishes multiple times in Jama Masjid area of purani dilli but have not had them often in kolkata.
Detailed description – in case u hv the time to njoy reading:
Mutton keema was excellent. Like most meaty dishes from kolkata, it had small cubes of aloo in it. The flavors of meat & spices complimented each other – none was able to dominate the other. The dish was rustic, robust & bold. It had a significant impact on the senses. Onions gave a tinge of sweetness to the dish. Rate it 4.25/5

Mutton dal gosht was the best of items that we had that morning. Loved the way the texture of daal was – each grain of daal was perfect in shape, yet perfectly cooked, there was a beautiful balance between flavor of daal & that of gosht (meat), the meat pieces were very enjoyable – soft & tasty. Rate this 4.5/5

Paya was good but relatively the last in order, among all dishes we ate that morning. We have surely had better paya in Jama Masjid area of purani dilli – Haji shabrati nihariwale, karim’s etc & also some eateries in Muhammad ali road area of mumbai – vali bhai, surti barah handi etc. The one at Shiraz was a thin gravy that tasted good. It lacked the flavour of marrow – flavor of masala was overpowering. Rate it 3/5

Mutton stew was very good. It had large chunks of tomatoes in it. The gravy was relatively lighter than say the keema or any day time mutton gravy. Good to taste. Tomatoes were playing the role of a relief to the spices & chillies. Rate it 3.5/5

Tandoori roti was super soft & fluffy on one side & crisp on the plain side. We liked the flavour of the roti. Rate it 4/5

Milky tea was a fun drink. It was way more milk than tea for me. The tea in the drink was more like a flavoring agent (like complan). The tea surely does not give a kick – I guess it rather makes one sleepy….. ha ha. Rate it 3/5 as a fun drink – not as tea. Must say that this drink seemed to be popular among many regulars. Saw this in many tables.

Sulaimani Tea was very good. Rate it 4/5

Overall rating of food & beverages at Shiraz golden averages out to be 3.75/5
I wud surely recommend to drop in for a breakfast & try the keema & daal gosht.
