Cool ambience at The Republic of Noodles Restaurant, Lemon Tree Aurangabad

Address & Other Details: Lemon Tree Hotels

Meal for 2: Rs 1000 onwards

Cuisine Type: Vegetarian & Nonvegetarian

Short Description – In case u r in a Hurry:

Though we have stayed in Gurgaon for many years now, we have not been to the Gurgaon or Delhi Lemon Tree Hotels. Our first brush with Lemon tree was at Aurangabad & this is where we saw a board that mentioned ‘winner of Times Food Guide Best Asian Food’ award. I was surprised. Times Food Guide in Aurangabad?? Checked with the Hotel Lobby & then came the story – The Delhi chapter had won the Times Food guide award twice. Since the menu & recipe is same across all the Republic of Noodles restaurants, they had put up such an advertisement.

Nonetheless we decided to give it a try & we were not at all dissappointed. Infact we loved the experience at this place.

Top view of poolside restaurant & open kitchen

The Restaurant at the Aurangabad property is pool-side. So the ambience was very good. Though there is a little bit of electric lighting in the corner, the real light for the dining table is just a candle – So even without planning for a ‘candlelight dinner’ u inadvertently end up in one.

the dining plates

The kitchen was an open kitchen on the poolside. One can go & take a peek at whats cooking. The service was reasonably on time & the guys serving were quite warm & knowledgeable.

We went for the dishes which showed up as Chef’s recommendation in the menu card. Loved the food. Honestly it was much better than my expectations. I cannot vouch that the dishes were 100% authentic but they were really good to taste.

Short Description – In case u r in a hurry:

At the entrance of the restaurant u find a hand painted wall that looks old & says ‘New Abhijeet’.

The hand painted wall at the entrance of Abhijeet

On the left, there is a new signboard with the name written on metal. As u enter there is an open air section that looks old as well. However as u cross this area u walk into a fairly large room that is surely new & well maintained – the indoor dining hall.

This is a pure vegetarian joint with Maharashtra food, South Indian, Rajasthani food & Punjabi food being offered. I saw some vegetarian ‘Chinjabi’ food as well on the menu.

The menu card looks impressive from outside with a picture of the restaurant. The way the menu card is organized reminded me of my travels to China – Photographs of food along with the menu card. Interesting – Not too many rastaurants do this even today.

The Chinese style menu card

The service is fast & good. The guy waiting on us patiently replied to a volley of questions that I had – all with a smiling face. The discussion was mainly about Local food.

He suggested a starter that we found to be good & in consultation with him we ordered the main course. Liked some & loved some – thankfully were not dissappointed by any.

Cuisine Type: Vegetarian

Short Description – In case u r in a hurry:

Aurangabad is the base town for Shirdi, Ajanta, Ellora & Daulatabad. So in case u r travelling to any of these places u need to stop over at Aurangabad.

Strangely, if u ask people / search the net, there r not too many convincing answers that u get. Autowallahs & taxi rivers tend to take u to expensive multi cuisine restaurants who r generalists – do not specialize in any ocal cuisine.
I was lucky to have a foodie friend who knew well about Aurangabad & hence it was easier. Be it vegetarian food or the Mughal inspired Nonvegetarian food, I was able to have some very good meals.

Yagya is a small simple spartan eatery that serves only vegetarian unlimited thali @ Rs. 130 per person.

the simple interiors

This restaurant has been around for 25 years now. The staff members speak Marathi & little bit broken Hindi. They are very warm though & treated us as if we were guests at their home.

A signboard outside the restaurant proclaimed – Traditionally moderate, Moderately traditional!!!!! I did not understand that part though.

the strange signboard

Some locals say that their ‘aunt’ or ‘grandma’ can cook better – I am sure they can. But for a tourist looking for good vegetarian food, this is an excellent place to drop by for some ‘home like’ tasty & good food.

The thali was outstanding – None of the Food courts in Delhi NCR serve such a good thali at even double the price of this. As compared to Haldiram’s / Bikanervala etc , this one is much simpler & closer to very good cooked home food & hence less oily & less heavy but very tasty.
