Short Description – in case u r in a hurry:
There r not too many great authentic Italian restaurants in Delhi. This restaurant happens to be one of those rare authentic ones. While food is quite good directionally, we faced some serious executional issues that gave quite an average ending to our experience.

The interior of the restaurant was quite dark & the only source of light was the lights above individual tables. The Open kitchen at one corner also was a source of light.
The staff members were quite knowledgeable but seemed to be pressed for time – Maybe they were serving too many tables at the same time. They were warm, hospitable & made us feel at home.

Food was good in general but surely short if great / memorable.
Detailed Description – in case u hv he time to NJOY reading:
We started our dinner with Zuppa (soup ) – Zappa di pesce e pomodoro fresco zag garron e fregola pasta – traditional Sardinian fish soup with saffron handmade fregola pasta. It was totally different from what is usually served in Italian restaurants in India. Fregola pasta was essentially uneven tiny chunks of maida, very good to taste. It looked somewhat like inconsistent sized raw tomatoes. The soup was slightly thick. Super soft and tasty calamari from Cochin made a great difference to the soup. The Fish cubes were nice. Liked the fish quite a lot. Overall taste of the soup was very good. Rate it 4/5.

While we were there, we were told that there was a Truffle festival going on. So we ordered a dish from truffle festival – carpaccio with freshly shaved truffles.

The Carpaccio was excellent. Super strong and tasty. Potato mash base was very nice. Cheese effect cud b felt. 3 GM of truffles were put atop. I don’t know why, it had no taste / flavor. I tried chewing in them individually as well. Sans the truffle angle this dish was 4.5/5. With the truffles it was 1.5/ 5. Overall rating averages out to 3/5.

Next dish we ordered was Gnocci with salmon. The Bread extreme crispy upper with extreme soft inside bread. Loved it. This was served with Gnocchi that was slightly sub-optimally salted. Sea salt crystals on the table cud not bridge the gap of salt. Plain salt might have helped. Buttery and super soft, the gnocchi was superb. It had a mild cheese flavor. The salmon chunks were good and nice. So were small pieces of broccoli. Not sure if everyone wud like it. I liked it a lot and rate it 4.25/5.

Last dish we ordered was tuna. Grilled tuna on braised cabbage. Severe salt problem in second dish one after another, evem after we pointed that out during feedback of previous dishes. We tried medium rare grill so that fish is as juicy as possible. Being tuna it cud not b juicy beyond a point. Rate the tuna 2.5/5 as it is.

Had salt been good, wud hv rated it 4/5. Braised cabbage was disgusting in absence of salt. Give it 1/5. For sides, sautéed wild mushroom that we ordered was not served at all!!!!! Service was quite messed up I must say inspite of the fact that the boys were quite good. Maybe they were sked to do more than they cud physically manage. Average rating of this dish is 1.75/5.

We ordered Tiramisu for dessert & nothing came for a long while. Disgusted, we asked for cheque. Then, to apologize we were offered 2 tiramisu. Was said no probs. 1 is fine. They finally did not charge us at all for tiramisu. The tiramisu was very good – It had an intense creamy top layer & nice soft inner layers. Loved it & rate it 4.25/5

We also tried Limoncello – Lemon flavored Italian Liqueur. Loved it & rate it 4/5

We tried Grappa di Nebbiolo as well – It was a grape based drink. It was very good & I rate it 4/5
Overall rating of food & beverages at La Piazza averages out to 3.6/5
I am not sure I wud revisit except to try their pizzas. Will keep u posted if I do. Look forward to ur comments.
