Short Description – in case u r in a hurry:
NOTE: All Pictures in this post r looking a bit bluish in color due to a strong blue light in the eating area.
As is always the case, YUMMRAJ suddenly landed up one evening in this tiny shop in Galleria market, posing as a normal consumer. Started talking to Rohit (the owner) who was the one who greeted us as soon as we reached the shop. The young guy was overflowing with energy & he sounded super passionate about this new place that he has come up with. He asked us ‘r u from the industry’. We said ‘no, we r just food lovers’. Even as I write this post, he does not know that he has had a brush with the God of Death (by food) 🙂 YUMMRAJ – He will get to know I guess after the post is published.
What was notable in the conversation was that he was trying to balance gourmet pizzas with popular ones like paneer tikka pizza etc & also gourmet pizzas vs. economy pizzas (Tasty basic pizzas at low price). I was quite impressed at the menu card which I wud say is quite unique in terms of the range of offering – Except a chosen few 5 star hotels, almost no one in Delhi NCR offers those kind of amazing International Pizzas. Examples – Seafood pizza, slightly sweetish mixed meat pizza, salmon pizzas, avocados & sour cream etc.
All pizzas have 6”, 9”, 11” & 15” variants. When we ordered two 6” Rohit said ‘why don’t u order one 11” & do it half-half, it will b more quantity but at similar price’. Good thought. Its different that we did order 3 of the 6” variety so that we cud taste more options. Their usual thickness is medium – more than super thin Fat Lulu pizzas & much less than Pizza Hut ones. They make super thin Pizzas if u ask for it.
They also have some very interesting pastas, grilled fish, grilled prawns & a wide variety of Gelatos. Am looking forward to trying those pretty soon.
There is no seating inside the shop. So one has to eat the pizza standing outside the shop / sit in one of the few chairs kept outside , on the main alley. Two removable pieces of wood that strut out of the Iron Grill serve as tables for those lucky fellows who sit.
Detailed Description – In case u have the Time to NJOY reading:
We started our meal with Seafood pizza. The seafood atop the pizza not at all rubbery like they tend to b in most other places. The owner Chef had earlier told us that he uses fresh seafood and not frozen ones. I guess that made all the difference. Every bite of the pizza was oozing with seafood flavor. Prawns were juicy, soft and yumm.
Ingredients of the pizza as per menu card were Prawns, basa, crab meat, mozzarella cheese topped with fresh herbs and lemon. The pizza we got had all of the above sans Crab meat (due to non availability of fresh crab meat, as explained by Chef while serving).
The pizza base was thin in the center and had a wall in the corner. The pizza dough was made in front of us & flattened as well. We saw them fork it as well. For baking they used a low walled metal flat Plate with pores. The pores gave a dotted texture to the outer surface of pizza.
The base was slightly fluffy but crisp. It was also daanedaar due to addition of semolina – totally unlike the Pizza Hut bread and unlike the fat lulu style roti as a base. Superb. Effort was commendable as very few places in Delhi NCR served such great seafood dishes 4.75/5.
The next item was Mexicana. Ingredients of the pizza as per menu card were – Spicy pepperoni, onion, roasted capsicum, mushroom, jalapeño, fresh chilli, tomato, mozzarella cheese topped with avocado & sour cream. The last two ingredients were not available & we had the pizza sans those.
This pizza also had a similar base as before. It was super-duper juicy, way beyond imagination. The spicy pepperoni was awesome. Excellent pizza once again. Rate it 4.5/5
The last pizza for the evening was Meat lovers pizza. Ingredients of the pizza as per menu card were ham, marinated chicken breast fillets, bacon, lamb pepperoni and mozzarella cheese. The Chef warned us that ‘as per the original recipe of this American pizza, the sauce was sweet.’ I have eaten sweet sauce pizza in many places across many countries and my conclusion has been that very few people can get it right.
These guys at Crusty got it perfect. The different meats cud not b understood separately. Every bite was different in terms of texture & overall the taste and texture was just awesome. Rate it 4.5/5
Rating of Pizzas averages out to 4.6/5.
I am not sure how long Rohit will b able to put in so much passion , creativity & commitment. Till the time he does, this place will rock. As of now it seemed like a ‘one (super)man show’. Hope this 2 month old startup has a great future & they keep pampering our tastebuds.
