Short Description – in case u r in a hurry:

Opened in 1927 by Mr & Mrs J Flurys, this restaurant has undergone one major renovation in so many years. Looks of the café are slightly different than what it originally was. I am attaching a very nice note about the café that talks about the heritage.

A note on the menu card
A note on the menu card

The latest menu card celebrates the heritage dishes & those r marked with ‘H’ – these dishes r from the repertoire between 20s & 60s.

The guys who come to the table & take orders r quite young & modern day. The person who was physically bringing the food seemed to have met the Flurys themselves. He was quite moody & had his share of mood swings.

The cutlery were having a heritage feel.

Food & beverages were very good. Takes quite an effort to maintain that standard after so many years. R they the best in their category in India? The answer is NO. There r quite a few Modern day restaurants in India that serve better – example L’Opera, Di Ghent Café (at much higher prices though) or even some dishes served at Kookie Jar (at similar prices).

This place is not just about the food – its about the whole old world charm , the food , the tea served in traditional way & of course the adda with friends…………….

The fried eggs were very good. They had chosen organic eggs instead of the usual disasterous pale yolk poultry eggs. That made the fried eggs so much better – the yolk tasted excellent. The egg white was optimally soft, optimally salted & not brittle. Rate it 4/5,

The grilled tomato was nice to taste, perfectly charred & had the right seasoning. Rate it 4/5

Rating of  English breakfast averages out to 3.9/5. Must say that at Rs. 525, (less that US$10), this is a marvelous breakfast by Global standards. This is better than almost all English breakfast I have eaten at that price anywhere in the world.

For drink we ordered Watermelon juice which was perfectly balanced in terms of taste & temperature. Rate it  4/5.

We moved on to Flury’s original chicken patties (Heritage dish). The outer layer was very fluffy & crisp. It tasted very good as well. Rate the outer layer 3.5/5.

The next dish we tried was Flury’s original open swiss sandwich with shredded chicken, ham, tomato & cheese. This was topped with a sunny side up. As it landed on the table, we realized it was a feast for the eyes. Later we realized it was a feast for the tastebuds as well.

  1. I am surprised with the rating you have given to the english breakfast. I have tried the Flury’s english breakfast a many times in the last 10 years and I have never found it very good. I have always returned with a feeling of being charged a lot for a fancy breakfast that was not up to the hype and one that did not even fill my stomach properly.

The bacon and sausages used in their breakfast are the mass produced types that I would avoid as much as i can. The sad part is that you can get some of the finest quality old style bacon and sausages at Kalmans which is not too far from Flury’s.

Their sandwiches OTOH are very nice and these days I limit myself to the sandwiches when I am at Flury’s for a breakfast.

The good thing about Flury’s is their location on Park street and that they actually are open for breakfast. Many restaurants will offer all day breakfasts, but they would be closed if you want to have your breakfast at 8am.

I really love the tables that are next to the pavement. Sit at one at 8am on a working day and you can see the city start to come alive. By the time you are done with a lazy breakfast, the whole area has transformed from a empty area to one bustling with activity of all the office workers.

BTW.. The english breakfast at cafe orange boom in anjuna, goa is way better than the one at Flury’s. It is cheaper, has better quantity and while they also use industrial bacon and sausages, theirs tend to taste much better.

    1. Hi,
Thanks so much for writing back & expressing ur views. I found the sausages industrial as well. So they were less rated than most other items. The bacon that I had was good. Maybe they changed the supply source or something than when u had it.

Look forward to trying breakfast at Cafe Anjuna, Goa

    1. For an Indian breakfast that is a lot of money but my comparison was with Global prices & also prices of similar quality English breakfast in India.

Thanks for writing in & sharing ur views.

  2. WOW!! You are awesome Yummraj. Thanks for such lovely reviews and pictures. Feeling hungry again even after heavy lunch. All the best.

      1. Do all the breads of flury have eggs in them,or brushed on top,dat gives it the unique flavour??

    1. highly overrated place..except for sandwiches and tea everything is ordinary over here.
surprised by your high ratings.try edesia at minto park next time(premium) or even territi bazar(budget) for original Chinese breakfast.

i am sure you will be pleasantly surprised.

      1. Thanks for sharing your views.

My overall rating is a mathematical average of dishes I had- each dish has been rated separately. So if I have not had a worse dish than mentioned, the rating wud show high.

        Once again thanks for sharing
