Short description – in case ur in a hurry:
The concept of india room is interesting. It serves food from different European countries that have either had colonies in india or had history of trade – England, Portugal, Spain, France, Holland, to name a few.

We at yummraj.com r a huge fan of European food at Orient express, taj delhi . As we started our lunch at the India room, we cud not but started talking about food at orient express. We said ‘this food is getting ‘closer’ to the orient express.’ And then we met the chef of The india room. Enjoyed a great foodie chat with him and got to know he is ex orient express. Wow. What a coincidence.

The dining hall at The India Room had high ceilings and had some outstanding seats by the huge glass windows. The middle of the Dining Hall had long tables for larger families to sit. On the other side, there were seats for families in semi enclosures as well.

The setting was opulent and very tastefully done.

The guy serving us was a great kid. He interacted with us with warmth and not in a stiff formal way. In general the staff members were very helpful and nice.

Food was outstanding in general.

Detailed description – in case u have the time to NJOY reading:
As we waited for food to arrive, We were served Champagne (a part of degustation menu). Our server recited ‘the song of India’ and raised a toast.

We started with a Salad named India room salad – It was salad greens with berries, chèvre cheese and citrus dressing.

Loved the Crunchy greens, enjoyed the flavors & texture of the superb cheese dollop. The salad had a sweet n sour dressing, Excellent candied lemon & some very good & crunchy baby asparagus. The salad was as good as it cud get. Rate it 4.5/5

The next dish we had was Porcini cappuccino with black olive powder. Our server explained that it is called cpauccino coz it has been made in a particular way & has been frothed. This Soup was one of the best mushroom soups I have had in recent months.

Soup plating deserves a mention here. We were served sautéed mushroom, garlic and black olive powder first. Aroma was bursting out as the plate arrived on our table.
Then the soup was poured from top.

As mentioned above, the soup was thick, frothy, was full of flavors of mushrooms & was just too YUMM. Rate it 4.5/5

Next dish we had was Aubergine tortellini. It was Roman handmade pasta with aubergine filling , served with tomato sauce. Very good I must say.

Aubergine flavor strongly made its presence felt inspite of tomato flexing its muscles as usual. The pasta was super soft and very good. Rate this dish 4.25/5

Post that came French dish Gouda soufflé. It was just awesome, full of flavor of cheese, super airy inside, fluffy, moist, warm, melt in the mouth.

I was awed by it as it is. This came with paprika sauce & that was excellent too. Loved it with paprika sauce as well.Rate this dish 4.75.

For main course we had Grilled Lamb chops with mashed potato, sautéed spinach and Rosemary jus. This was British inspired. The dish was again Awesome.

We had said we want the meat to be juicy and we got just that. The meat was Perfectly done. Juicy to the core. The meat was of an excellent cut that was glazed with layers of fat. Strong flavor of lamb. Perfectly soft yet firm meat. Rate the lamb 4.75/5.

The lamb was placed atop an excellent garlic spinach that retained the flavor of both garlic and spinach. Rate it 4.5/5
Super soft but crunchy young asparagus was there as a side – It was as good as it cud get. Kudos to the purchase manager and the chef. Rate it 4.5/5

Mashed potato was good but I have surely had better in delhi Ncr. Rate it 3/5.
Overall rating of the dish averages out to 4.2/5
Next dish that we had was Prawn piri piri – this was Portuguese influence. Very good on its own. It also was the weakest of all dishes served, on a relative scale.

Huge YUMM prawns , kind of soft but not to its true potential. Hv had better (softer, juicier) cooked prawns, but must admit, those were always in coastal towns where they serve ‘catch of the day’ – Boston, Hongkong etc. Rate piri piri prawn 4/5.

For dessert we had Baked yoghurt – it had scraped orange rind. The yoghurt was intense, mild sweet and sour, had a thick texture. Excellent to taste . Rate it 4.5/5

We also tried Caramel Mille feuille – classic thousand leaf with caramel cremeux and forest berry select.

The caramelisation of the filling had led to reduction of sweet and addition of a bitter tinge. Loved it.

The crisps were super flaky, crisp yet a hint of moistness due to the fat in the mix. Topped with mind blowing berries. Outstanding dessert. Rate it 4.75/5.

Overall rating of food at The India Room averages out to 4.4/5
