Short description – in case u r in a hurry:

This Foodie madness post is a part of a series called Culinary pilgrimage – On a weekend in August 15 we decided to travel to Jodhpur on Culinary pilgrimage. A 2 day trip to Jodhpur just to eat out at the numerous streetfood shops that have survived over time……….We ended up eating at 11 places in a span of 48 hours & spent a total of approx Rs. 1850 & then we dined at Jodhpur fort for Rs. 3000. The cost of staying at Jodhpur & travelling to Jodhpur from Delhi was, needless to say, quite a few times more.

We came to know about Gypsy from numerous conversations on social media.

We reached the restaurant, went inside, sat on the table, waited for menu card, to realize we were in the wrong floor of the right restaurant. The ground floor is a general a la carte North Indian restaurant.

We got to know from the waiter that there r two different floors with different menus and different entrances. We ended up going to the ground floor one and we were told it is Punjabi and other North Indian.

The First floor hall was big, with 3 rows of tables. It had paintings on the wall & was very well maintained.

The service was very organized, yet very personalised. People come and serve all dishes endless times – till u want to eat.

They offered us a hand wash in a special vessel.

Detailed description – in case u hv the time to njoy reading:
We started with Chaanch. It was thin, nice, with specs of milk fat. Spiced up with jeera roasted. It had perfect taste. It was made from sour fermented curd. Rate it 4/5

Dal baati was very enjoyable. The baati was crisp but not too hard – hence it crumpled easily but was perfect to chew on, without losing a tooth. Rate the baati 4.5/5

The Dal was very simple, flavours of Dal were nice, so we’re flavours of good ghee. Rate it 4.5/5

Kair sangri (a local Rajasthani vegetable preparation) was excellent. It was a Dry dish with texture of ker, sangri intact. Masalas augmented the taste of ker, sangri and thankfully did not overpower the taste of ker, sangri. Rate it 4.5/5

Gwar fali(a veggie) and other watery vegetables curry was outstanding. I took 3 helpings of that. The veggies retained their respective texture and one cud differentiate as the veggies wud land on the mouth. Super loved it and rate it 4.75/5

Paneer curry was good but it did not have the greatness of the other dishes at gypsy. The paneer seemed to made inhouse. It was not soft but a bit chewy. The gravy was thick, tomato based and slightly high on sour. Rate this 3/5.

Gatta ( gram flour nuggets) was very soft and good to taste. It was however not intense like the one at shaandar sweets. The gravy tasted very good as well. Rate it 4.25/5.

Choorma laddoo was pretty much small dana s & very good to taste. It was however not as wow as the other dishes. Rate it 4/5.
