Short description – in case u r in a hurry:
Had heard very good things about the mumbai branch of this restaurant from friends.

So when we got to know that SWATI is inahmedabad too, we decided to pay a visit.
We were late for lunch and at quarter to 3 there was a 30 minutes queue. We decided to wait and it was worth it.
The restaurant has a 3 side open outer area that has a roof. People usually wait here. There is s ‘gola’ section in the corner of that area so that people waiting can engage themselves.

Inside the restaurant there was rows of tables and chairs in a squarish hall. The ceiling was high and had exposed beams.

Service was fast & efficient. The gentlemen who were taking orders and coordinating were senior and experienced and explained everything about the cuisine in detail , with patience.

Menu card was small and had limited number of options. After eating here we realised their offering is less but food is outstanding.

Day’s special was written on a board. We tried quite a few things from there.

A lot of people were eating thalis which we will try some other time.
Food was excellent.
Detailed description – in case u hv the time to njoy reading:
Ponkh bhel (puffed rice) was chatpata, had a great texture and balance of seasoning.

It had a nice combination of crunchy and soft. Excellent to taste. Rate it 4.5/5

We then had Undhiyu with bajri roti . For the uninitiated, Undhiyu is a unique and amazing curry made by slow cooking winter vegetables.

The bajra Roti was outstanding. It had a Crisp outer layer and was moist and soft inside. Rate it 4.5/5.

The Undhiyu was excellent. It takes caliber to create such a dish from day to day vegetables and also a lot more caliber to consistently make it as good.

It had a tinge of sweet as expected. The veggies retained their texture yet they had mixed well with each other. Rate it 4.75/5.

We also tried Dabeli which in simple terms can b called an Indian version of burger. It had a Veggie patty with potato and other veggies.

The bread of the dabeli had become crisp on the outer side and was Very soft within. The outer layer had flavour of good butter. The patty was very tasty. Overall it was very good to taste. Rate it 4.25/5

Panki with chutney was mind blowing. It takes a genius to invent such a thing and some more to constantly serve them as good.

A lentil based mix was placed between two banana leaves and cooked on fire. The Panki was served in the banana leaf and had to b scraped out b4,eating. Awesome flavours and taste. Was blown over. Rate it 4.75/5

Chutney was also very good but I loved it as it is.

Handvo was a baked product with crispy sesame seeds on top. It tasted good. Was crisp outside and soft inside. Rate it 4.25/5

Patra was excellent. For those new to this cuisine, this dish is made from Besan ( a lentil product) and a leaf steamed together. Not spicy, not on the face but immensely flavourful and yumm. Rate it 4.5/5.

We next tried Mohan thal (a dessert made from daal, sugar and ghee). It was daanedaar , had flavour of dal and also of good ghee. Rate it 4.5/5

Sukhadi was another sweet we had. This was dry, not too sweet and had good flavours. Rate it 4/5.

Sugarcane juice was refreshing and nice. Loved it. It had a hint of mint, lemon and ginger. Rate it 4.25/5

Loved sipping on buttermilk. Light, perfect texture, thickness & seasoning. Rate it 4.5/5

Overall rating of food at Swati averages out to 4.4/5
I wud revisit to try the thali
I died and went to heaven when I ate Panki! The hard-core non-veg me was converted in my office tours to Ahmedabad at Agashiye and Swati. Such mouth watering food.
That’s so true:)
