Short description- in case u r in a hurry:
We got to know about wildgrass when we sought advice from our e-foodie- friend Deepti Ranjan Behera, on places to visit and eat in Puri.
Wildgrass not only runs this restaurant but also do local cycling trips and walks.
The restaurant has two sections – a lovely outdoor section and a nice dining hall.
A lot of creative thought went behind creating this space. Loved the ambience.
In a tourist dependent city like Puri, it is great to have a restaurant that is serious about serving authentic local food.
The boy serving us was very good. He took care and helped us choose the items on the menu.
Menu card was detailed , with good description of each dish
Loved the food.
Detailed description- in case u hv the time to njoy reading:
Puri food section and chilika section in the menu card attracted us.
Badi chura was a very interesting dish made out of crushed bori (sundried lentil paste in conical shape ). The dish was chatpata. The bori was crisp and very good. Add ons were onions, chopped garlic cloves, finely chopped green chillies and raw mustard oil that made it pungent. Rate it 4/5
Parshey fish jhol ( mustard paste based gravy) was very good. The fish was not over fried like most commercial establishments end up doing. The mustard was pungent and loved it. Rate it 4.25/5
Chingudi mahura – shrimps cooked in home style vegetable curry. The freshness of prawns ensured that the flavours of the curry were bursting out at the seams and there was no external help needed to jack up the flavours. The curry was super simple, made with minimal spices and hence subtle. Rate it 4.5/5
Ghee arna mutton – home style mutton curry with ghee rice. The mutton curry was very good – made from not too big goat meat. That ensured that the meat was super soft and YUMM as well. The gravy was relatively thin and very tasty. Rate it 4.5/5
They served this dish with ghee rice.
For dessert we had Pitha. While it Wud hv been marvellous to eat exactly this Pitha when it was hot, the room temperature did not make the Pitha lose too much of its caliber. It was mildly sweet, had a pinch of salt to balance and was very good to taste. Rate it 4/5
Overall rating of food at wildgrass averages out to 4.25/5
Wud surely revisit next time
