Short description- in case u r in a hurry
The face that the restaurant is around Since 1930 speaks a lot – also that two generations of the owners were present at the restaurant when we walked in on a Sunday noon, for an early lunch.
The interiors were simple & basic.
The service was normal.
The restaurant is very focussed. It serves parathas of different kind. The menu card is a long list of options. When we were there, the owner was around. We got chAtty & he recommended mixed veg paratha to us. I wud never have ordered that but it turned out to be fab. We also ordered two unusual parathas.
The parathas were Sliced into 4 like a pizza & served.
The parathas are Cooked on a heavy & super thick iron tawa (more than 1 inch thick)!!!!, & having the diameter of a paratha + 1 inch. One paratha was being fried at a time. That made a big amount of difference I guess. The parathas were of course fried in ghee.
One had just to choose the paratha we wanted – Subzis were served with the parathas.
Parathewale gali of old dilli is a fraud – the guys deep fry parathas & to me genuinely insult the concept of a paratha. Patience & paratha r intertwined & deep frying is a sad short cut. Rambabu is lightyears better than any paratha I have had I delhi NCR.
Detailed description – in case u hv the time to njoy reading:
Aloo ki subzi was pieces of potato on a hot & tangy thick gravy, thickened by the potatoes themselves. It was chatpata & very good to taste. Rate it 4.25/5
Kadhi was excellent. Perfect balance of sweet & salt, the kadhi had an optimum thickness. Rate it 4.5/5
Mixed vegetable curry was a rockstar. Perfect texture, brilliant taste & just too good. We Licked our fingers several times while having this. Rate it 4.75/5
Mix veg paratha was recommended by them. This turned out to be the best. Super crisp outer layer, moist mid part. A bit juicy. Perfect to taste & slightly chatpata too. Never had anything like this, as good. Rate it 4.75/5
Daal paratha was again excellent. The grains of daal could be seen & felt at the same time. Flavors of daal made its presence felt. Rate it 4.5/5
Sev paratha had sev filling. Loved this again. Rate it 4.5/5
