Short description- in case u r in a hurry
We got to know of spicy rika through the Instagram posts of Freddy Birdie. He mentioned his love for the raw mango salad, among other food items served by Spicy Rika. So we requested for raw mango salad inspite of it not being there on the menu. We loved having it.
We generally avoid most Asian restaurants in India as there is an unstoppable tendency among most chefs to Indianize the offering & to make it chicken heavy. So we almost don’t get to eat Asian food unless it is by some home chef like Aroi (she has now shifted to kolkata) or hardcore Japanese restaurants like Raifu or Premium ichizen.
Freddy Birdie’s posts gives an impression that he speaks his mind & does not unnecessarily sweet talk. So we thought if Freddy is saying, it must be good.
We reached out to Spicy Rika on WhatsApp & placed our order . She sent us an invoice & we transferred the money in advance.
The parcel came before time on both day 1 & day 2 (yes we loved t so much on day 1 that we did a day 2 also).
The packaging was in thick, robust plastic boxes that that did not let the sauces leak!!!
The large Carrybag in which all the food came was very attractive.

Loved the food.
Detailed description – in case u hv the time to njoy reading:
Day 1
Raw mango salad was not on the menu & we loved it. The crunch of raw mango was quite intact. The balance of salt, sweet, sour was lovely. The taste was quite robust. Rate it 4.5/5

Thai style dumpling, chicken & prawn came in WIP (work in progress) format. The dumplings were semi prepared. We had to steam them before eating.

Problem started because the dry dumplings stuck to the base of the tiffin box during transportation & almost all of them ended up being bottomless!!!!

We steamed the dumplings. They came out to be perfect – full of flavour, juicy & really nice. With the dipping sauce & without. Rate it 4/5
Stir fried kale & pork was excellent. We loved the juicy, shredded pork but more than the pork we loved the sauce & pork soaked kale. Rate it 4.75/5

Steamed black cod in Thai herbs was a hardcore Thai dish with no effort made to Indianize it. We loved that bit. The fish had to be steamed by us. We messed that part a bit due to wrong choice of steaming vessel.

Loved the simple fish dish made with very good fish. Rate it 4/5
We loved the Sticky rice that came with the food.

Hate to see basmati being served (compulsorily) in many Asian restaurants in India. This sticky rice was such a relief.
Day 2
Rice paper rolls – we ordered prawn paper rolls but by mistake we were sent vegetable paper rolls. We would have never ever ordered this but here we had the vegetarian rolls staring at us.

We informed & immediately the mistake was recognised & we were offered a ‘correction’ next time.

The vegetarian rolls tasted very good with the dip. Rate it 4/5
Just as it is, it tasted just good. It was better than most chicken rolls (pretending to be Thai) being sold in Delhi. Rate it 3/5 as it is.
Stir fried beans & water chestnuts was a marvel. A simple home dish that pleasantly shocked us by its simplicity & brilliance of taste. The beans were crunchy. So were the water chestnuts. Onion seeds had been used to cook this. Rate it 4.95/5

Thai Red curry chicken was excellent again. Like always, the chicken pieces were besides the point. The that curry gravy & the crunchy vegetables did a magic song & dance on our taste buds. Rate it 4.75/5

Crispy tamarind sole supreme had to be deep fried before eating. This arrived in perfect condition & we fried it very well too. Tasted great as it is & simply fabulous with the dip. Rate it 4.75/5

We enjoyed our day 2 food with Jasmine rice
Overall rating of food at spicy Rika averages out to 4.3/5
Look forward to reordering….
Hi Sir, any recommendations for good veg restaurants in Delhi.
Hi, thanks for writing in. Am sharing a few restaurants that serve all kinds of food but their vegetarian fare is very good too – tres, mezze mambo, chor bizarre (Pandara road), Amar Jyoti, kitchen of awadh (home delivery) , Matamaal gurgaon
To add to my previous reply, spicy rika also has good vegetarian options.
Thank you Sir! Will be visiting Delhi soon for a day and hence wanted to know 🙂
Great. Please let me know what you liked & what you did not.
