South Indian Coffee House Restaurant (besides Panna Sweets, Bramho Samaj Road, Behala, Kolkata)

In a nutshell:

Very good & authentic South Indian Vegetarian fare at prices that r unthinkable in other Metro Cities of India – surely worth a try when ur pocket is not in a good mood.

Meal for 2: Rs. 50 onwards

Cuisine Type: Vegetarian

Description:

As u enter this place u realize that the restaurant is just a small 200 sq ft room. A part of the tiny room is a South Indian ‘food & miscellaneous items’ shop. The rest of the room has 4 tables with 4 seating each in which u r expected to share seats with other people during crowded periods.

The medu vada that we ordered was not freshly made, but reheated. It was not bad in taste though – soft & fluffy, strong flavors & taste – no black pepper.

This was served with strong thick, (big) grainy chutney, with lots of coconut & was very good in taste.

The sambhar was thin & ok ok.

The idly was Quite good with a slight fermented feel – soft & tasty. Though nothing compared to Murugan Idly Chennai or Saravana Bhawan Delhi or Jyoti Vihar, Kolkata.

1 plate each of idly & vada is Rs. 30.

The Masala Dosa (Rs. 27!!!!) was thick but soft, with a crispy (but not burnt brown) outer layer, the filling curry was also fairly good. Overall, very enjoyable.

Sadly they do not serve Filter Coffee
