Short description – in case u r in a hurry:
As we entered the restaurant, we found 2 generations sitting at the counter near the entrance – the eler person seemed to be a nonagenarian (maybe octagenerian as well). Everyone from the owner to all the staff welcomed us with a smile with genuine warmth.

The first floor dining place had two sections, a general one and an enclosed one.
As we reached the table, we found the typical huge thali steel plate with small steel bowls placed in it.
The guys serving us made sure they gave 1-2 tablespoons of each item and they were happily coming back with a smile as many times to repeat. I think it was a good idea and it ensured people were not wasting food.
A floor manager was constantly monitoring the tables and was making sure people do not wait for long.
Detailed description – in case u hv the time to njoy reading:
Garlic chutney was smooth and full of nice garlicky flavor. Rate it 4.5/5

Green chutney was good but not outstanding. Rate it 3.5/5
Sweet and sour imli chutney was tangy and chatpata. Rate it 4.5/5
Dhokla was better than the usual variety, was not soft, not watery. It was coarse and nice, yet not as good as the ones we had at Das Khaman House Ahmedabad. Rate it 4/5.

Daal Vada was tiny and round in shape. These were crisp outside and soft inside. Loved the flavours of daal. Rate it 4.25/5
Veg Pakoda was good to taste. It had a veggie filling that was a bit dryish and did not particularly taste of anything. The outer layer was crisp and nice. Rate it 3.5/5.

Dal baati was simple and soul satisfying. The daal was simple, had full flavours of daal and spices. The baati was good. Rate it 4/5.

Mogri (a veggie) was simply sautéed sans any masalas but very nice to eat. Rate it 4.25/5.

Masala Bhujia with peanuts was robust and it hit the senses in every bite. Loved the punch and balance of taste. Rate it 4.5/5.

Assorted breads – all the breads were delicious and they were served with a dollop of ghee. Specially liked the rotla. Rate these 4.5/5
Sev and tori curry was too good. Tori (a water filled veggie) was amazing amongst a lovely curry with sev (crispies made of lentil paste). Rate it 4.75/5

Aloo subzi was very good as well. Loved the flavours of the masalas and the balance of taste. Rate it 4.5/5

Flower subzi (cauliflower ) – yes, the guy said ‘flower subzi’. I was expecting some exotic fish made from some flower. But it turned out to b cauliflower. Loved it. Rate it 4.25/5

Mothh Ki sabzi was excellent. It had an achari feel to it. The mothh was very well cooked. Rate it 4.5/5

Kadhi was outstanding. Perfect in all ways. Rate it 4.75/5

Daal (arhar) was simple and had great flavours of daal as well as jeera and good flavourful ghee. It was thick and Yumm. I had several helpings. Rate it 4.75/5

Chaanch was robust, thick and very enjoyable. Rate it 4.5/5

Fruit custard was thick and very good. It had good amount of fresh fruits. Rate it 4/5

Shrikhand was probably the best I have ever had. Intense, thick, amazing texture, mind blowing balance of sweet and sour and unbelievably YUMM. Rate it 4.95/5

Gajar ka halwa was very good. Enjoyed the flavours of gajar and the subtle flavour of milk. I have surely had much better in Chandni Chowk Delhi, especially Giani’s di Hatti. Rate this dish 4/5.

Gulab jamun (made inhouse) was another marvel. Very few places make the real, authentic gulab jamun – dense texture, less porous, firm, flavours of good ghee, a center with pistachios etc, all in a very thick syrup. A pinch of salt that they added did wonders to the balance the unidirectional sweetness. Rate it 4.75/5

Overall rating of Shree Thakar Bhojanalaya averages out to 4.34/5
