Description:
It was one foodie afternoon when we were at Dacres lane, the the eat street for Office goers to Esplanade area of Kolkata. We had fully stuffed ourselves with awesome lunch from Chitto babus shop. We were walking towards the renovated Great Eastern Hotel.

We stopped at this shop seeing it relatively much more crowded than the rest. We peeped thru the crowd & reached the shop.

The shop did not have a signage. It was actually a roadside stall.

They were selling poori subzi, samosa & jalebis. All were being constantly being made & served to an endless crowd.
Needless to say we tried the jalebis only as we were already full.

We were stunned to still find that they charged ₹8 for 2 pieces of heavenly jalebis – I guess only in Kolkata u get such retro prices any more.

The jalebis were big & were Super crisp. The jalebis were obviously sweet but the sweetness was very well balanced with prominent sourness from fermentation of the batter – very highly enjoyable.

They looked different than the usual Kolkata jalebi (jilipi) & were thicker too. The texture was different as well. They looked more like the Dilli jalebis but had the goodness in taste of Kolkata ones (sweet n sour).

I started chatting with the guy & got to know that his name is Bhagirath Roy. The name was not mentioned anywhere.
Rate the jalebis 4.5/5
Look forward to revisiting, to try the samosas & pooris in my next rip to Kolkata.
can totally relate to this one Yummraj. My office is nearby and i love their stuff.
