Short description- in case u r in a hurry:
We searched for options to eat and came across this restaurant. The concept seemed interesting.
The restaurant is located inside Hilton shillim, a beautiful 300 acre spa resort in shillim (also spelled shilimb) amidst nature. There are farms in the property from where a lot of fresh ingredients are collected for cooking.
The restaurant has poolside seating and also a glass wall indoor seating.
The interiors of the restaurant are nice but nothing special. A stone idol of Nandi bull welcomes the guest near the entrance
The menu card was made of thick handmade paper and was bound by a jute rope.
Menu items were all accommodated in 3 pages.
The options were less in general. They did not have any meat dishes (except chicken) , a few fish and one seafood dish. There was a good selection of vegetarian food.
Someone paid a lot of attention to the Planning and execution of food. Loved our evening.
Detailed description- in case u hv the time to njoy reading:
Soup of the day – we were told that the soup had been made from garden fresh organic vegetables grown in Hilton shillim estate. That sounded good. So we ordered this for all. The soup was thick, had a great balance of seasoning. Had a bit of punch. However the way it was, the ingredients had lost their voice – the new entity did not acknowledge their roots. Rate the soup 4/5.
We loved the Steamed guava salad that had garden basil yoghurt, prune , mesclun and aged balsamic. The guava was lovely. Basil yoghurt was creamy and thick. Aged balsamic made the fresh greens more enjoyable. Rate the dish 4.5/5
Thai herb spiced steamed snapper. Miso eggplant, saffron mayonnaise. This came packed in paper. Inside the paper there was a layer of banana leaf on which the fish was there in addition to the other condiments. Nice pieces of fish , lovely juices at the bottom, full of flavours. Very enjoyable. Rate it 4.25/5
Tagine of free range chicken, couscous with nuts, steamed young marrow was served in a tiny tagine. It was a simple soupy thin curry full of flavours and with pieces of soft and nice chicken in it. Loved munching on the couscous and nuts. Rate the dish 4.25/5
Cured salmon with millet cake, lobster and squid salpicon, grapefruit emulsion, cauliflower purée was very enjoyable. The purée was unusual and very nice. Loved the emulsion.
The fish was outstanding – flaky, juicy, bursting with flavours and super duper YUMM. Rate this dish 4.5/5
Mixed mushroom boureki , a la olio vegetable, wheat spaghetti, port wine sauce was the last dish we ordered. It took 45 minutes to arrive. Something had gone wrong with the oven and hence they had to prepare this in another kitchen and get it from there – we were told. At the time if patent we were told that since this got delayed they will not charge for it!!!
This turned out to be the best dish of the evening. The boureki was marvellous. It was flaky beyond imagination , had a super YUMM mixed mushroom filling – full of flavours. Rate this dish 4.75/5 inspite if the fact that the wheat spaghetti was suboptimally cooked.
For dessert we started with Chocolate pave with almond praline.
Sweet potato creme brûlée with berry compote, fruit ratatouille, poppy seed touille.
Lemon panacotta , raspberry sauce, almond macaroons was good but cud not attain the greatness that some of the other dishes did. It was too many things, not going too well with each other – a super bland panacotta with a super strong raspberry sauce etc. Rate it 3/5
Cinnamon spiced ice tea was excellent- it blended the cinnamon flavour beautifully while retaining the flavours of the tea and the astringent feel. Rate it 4.5/5
Lemongrass iced tea was again very enjoyable. Refreshing, perfect seasoning and tangy. Rate it 4.5/5
Overall rating of food at green table restaurant averages out to 4.25
Wud look forward to revisiting when in that area.
