Short description- in case u r in a hurry

We had read about this place on the social media. The comments sounded interesting. So we decided to go here for breakfast during our trip to delhi NCR.

At 830 am in the morning, early March, the market was completely empty. There were quite a few cars and they were all here for kulcha walas.

As I reached the place, I realised this is a branch of a shop by the same name in lajpatnagar delhi. Also realised that the tiny shop also serves non veg food by the name ‘kebabs & grills’.

During my stay in delhi NCR earlier I used to wonder why no one makes as good kulchas as Amritsar. We searched but never found a place. It was a great relief to see this shop come up, who seemed to be focused on kulcha.

The menu card is on an easel stand. Timing of dishes available is clearly mentioned. I did not notice the timing and asked for something from the evening section. The answer came In British style – cold & Curt, to check the timing b4 asking for an item!!! Oops.

I generally comment about service in an eatery. Here it was self serve. A chhotu was getting the refills though.

Loved the kulchas. Better than we had ever had in gurgaon before. Better than even the famous lotan chholey kulchey wale of Chandni Chowk delhi.

Detailed description – in case u hv the time to njoy reading:

We started with Gobhi kulcha, which turned out to b the best. It was not round but oblong in shape. It was not soft but crispy. It was layery and in the core it was soft. A small pack of Amul butter was also given, to be spread on top. I loved it just as it is – it was so perfect. The texture of kulcha Reminded me of rahim’s kulchas at Chowk, Lucknow, though rahim’s is better than this. Rate the kulchas 4.5/5 – as good as I have had in Amritsar.

Kulcha came with chholey. It was subtle – not on the face masaledaar / hot like most others. The chhola was soft and perfectly cooked. Loved the way the balance of taste and flavors came. Rate it 4.5/5

A tamarind Chutney with chillies and onion in it was a good chatakdaar add on. Enjoyed it. Rate it 4/5

Aloo kulcha was second best. This one was round in shape. The kulcha was as good as the cauliflower one. I just liked the taste of cauliflower better. Rate it 4.25/5

Chholey bhature had a different chholey. This one was more robust, daanedaar & hot than the other one. The bhature was good and had a slight fermented feel. Rate the chholey 4.5/5 & bhature 4.25/5.

Lassi was the only dish that was good but not great. It was thick but seemed to be machine made. No malai on top. Rate it 3/5

Overall rating of kulche wale averages out to 4.1/5

I Wud look forward to trying the evening dishes once.

  1. When you say they are a branch shop of lajpat Nagar, it is because you saw this written on board or you have visited their lajpat Nagar outlet?
