Harajuku Tokyo Cafe (2nd floor, ambience mall gurugram)

In a nutshell:

We loved all that we ate that evening at harajuku – a funky, visually attractive, instafriendly Japanese street food themed cafe – not traditional but pop Japanese food

Short description- in case u r in a hurry

We were walking around in ambience mall gurugram one day & noticed a boardout of ‘Japanese restaurant under construction’. We saw it & thought – this might not be the hardcore Japanese restaurant like kuuraku or premier ichi zen, raifu tei or say Sakura.

Facade as seen from walkway of mall

On another day we saw that the restaurant has opened & decided to check it out.

Japanese comics at the cafe – for guests to read

The staff were nice & warm. They welcomed us & gave us a choice of seat.

The visual elements were super fun

The boy we were talking to, had good knowledge of the items on the menu. He was capable of making suggestions based on what we said.

Seating

The menu card was descriptive & easy to understand.

The most fun part of the experience was the interiors. The scrolling electronic board, the cheeky punch lines on the wall, the colour story, the tiny clouds, everything added up to add a super insta friendly visual.

We have not been to japan for tourism yet. We have not eaten the real Japanese street food. So we do not have a reference point. Some of the dishes had an American snack influence. We loved the food as it is, without knowing what the real Japanese street food is.

Detailed description – in case u hv the time to njoy reading:

Salmon inside out roll – there was salmon inside & there was salmon outside. Some call it rebel rolls. There were Japanese & spicy mayo drops on top of the roll. This was quite new for us. Ate it with an open mind & just loved it. Rice perfect. Fish – really enjoyable. Rate the fish 4.5/5

Salmon poke bowl was really good. It was different from the traditional rice bowl that we had eaten at Japanese restaurants like kuuraku, premium ichi zen, raifu tei, sakura etc. The one at harajuku seemed to be a pop / street version of the traditional.

Once again it had mayo on top & a mild spicy feel. Loved the rice texture, taste & flavour , the avocado & the salmon & all possible combinations. Rate it 4.5/5

For dessert, we had Jiggly pancake – Nutella flavoured. This was Fluffy Japanese soufflé pancakes This was super fun to see & play with, before we started to eat. The sauce was intense & very well balanced. The pancake was super jiggly. Very very fun dish. Rate it 4.25/5
