Tree house Restaurant at Ken River Lodge (Village Madla, District Panna, Madhya Pradesh)

In a nutshell:

Super loved the look, feel, detailing & the overall experience at ‘tree House’ just besides the huge Ken River & liked the food that was more like ‘home cooked’ than at a Restaurant.

Cuisine Type: Vegetarian & Nonvegetarian (Not available always)

Short Description – In case u r in a hurry:

Located 35 kms away from Khajuraho & very near to Panna Forest Reserve, this restaurant is quite an experience – Taxis & autorickshaws are available in abundance to take u there. The roads from Khajuraho to Panna are narrow but not bad . To go to this lodge, one has to get into a village road & the as the road ends, one has to enter a dirt track. The scenery is beautiful & the experience awesome.

Post u park the car, u have to walk to the Ken river lodge – starting with a rustic wooden footbridge.

As u enter the clearing where the ‘Tree house’ is situated, u realize that it is not a tree house in the true sense. It is a large hall with a large balcony (facing the river) made with wood but placed on a strong cement structure.

Branches of real trees protrude from the floor of the dining hall.

The wooden balcony with the river flowing by, has seating arrangements & it is amazing – It is great for some romantic moments & also for a group of 5-6 friends.

British Airways inflight food

Route: Delhi to London Heathrow & further to the USA & return

Description:

I have always been a fan of Breakfast at BritishAirways. In the numerous times I have travelled, I have always looked forward to it. The lunches & Dinners that I have had were mostly good & some memorable. But the breakfast has always scored over the other meals in my mind.

Here comes the latest experience:

breakfast bowl with omelet, kabab, grilled tomatoes & hash brown

The Breakfast consisted of a ‘no frills’ omelet with less salt ( that is always the case in any non Indian setting) & hint of green bell pepper & tiny specs of onion. The Omelet was well done but soft, not brittle & had a simple yet good taste & feel to it.

This was served along with a full Grilled tomato that of course did not have salt added to it.

The Rounded patty of potato was very good – crispy on the outside, soft & lumpy inside. The potato was never fully mashed & hence it was lumpy. Very good.

The meaty kabab was the star of the show. It was not juicy unlike all other good kababs, but dry. It had a Shammi Kabab kind of texture, subtle flavors & taste.

Needless to say that this was accompanied with fresh fruit juice.

A Danish Pastry was served as dessert. It was crispy on the outer, glazed with honey on the top, it seemed to be having millions of layers within & a rich chocolate filling in the center. Liked it a lot.

Hours later it was meal time again. I did something that I never do. I did not request for a Continental cuisine but settled for Butter Chicken – figured out that this is served in Flights ex London Heathrow Airport – It was simply Awesome. One of the best Butter Chickens I have had in maybe the last 2 yrs. Cooked at London Kitchen!!!

butter chicken

I was stunned, shocked (pleasantly) how they cud make it so good. Better than most of the orangish tomatoee Butter Chicken varieties available in Delhi. Perfectly tandoored boneless chicken pieces, perfectly tempered gravy, spicy & a bit hot as well. As good as it cud get. The long grain basmati rice pulao that was served had slices of red chillies on it that were flavorful as well as hot!!! Independent strands of rice but melt in the mouth, flavorful & very tasty.

Totally unexpected & completely out of the blue & realy good. YUMMRAJ was super impressed

The Great Kabab Factory (Park Hotel Gurgaon, Noida, Radisson Hotel)

In a nutshell:

If u want to treat ur non Indian/ NRI guests to Indian food, this is a really great option. If u want to delve deep into the various kinds of kababs (under the same roof) that r popular in India, this is the place to be. If u want ur kababs to be made with the best ingredients in a healthy manner, this is the place to be – The Great Kabab factory offers u a multitude of great Kababs in an excellent environment & very warm service.

4 excellent chutneys / sauces to go with kababs - I do not eat sauces with Kababs though

However, if u happen to b an Indian foodie like YUMMRAJ (who just goes by the taste of food – not ambience, not service, not anything else), u wud say – The Great Kabab Factory is a ‘jack of all trades but master of none’. So, U wud rather prefer to sweat it out in the lanes & bylanes of Chandni Chowk or Kolkata or Lucknow to get a better deal for ur tastebuds.

buttermilk served 'on the house' to help digest the plethora of kababs
Address & other details: The Great Kabab Factory
Meal for 2: Rs. 5000 (with non alcoholic drinks)
Cuisine type: Vegetarian & Nonvegetarian
Short Description – In case u r in a hurry:
Great kabab factory is a very good ‘one stop shop’ for Kababs – One has to order for a vegetarian or non-vegetarian option & different kababs keep coming in till the time you can eat ……and all this at a fixed price. While the Galawati kababs of Tunday’s in Lucknow are surely better & the Burrah kabab of Karim’s is surely better, the Great Kabab Factory serves all such things with reasonably good taste, under the same roof, in a nice ambience. The Tandoori prawn kababs are a real show stopper here. This bombardment of kababs is followed by two nice daals, an ordinary subzi, a very aromatic but stupid tasting biryani & tandoori roti. An elaborate dessert follows this………… overall, an excellent place to taste multiple kababs under one roof in a nice ambience – Each of these are very good but none of them are the best in their respective categories

Ashok & Ashok (Delhi 6, off the Sadar Police station road, gali besides Agarwal Sweets)

In a nutshell:

Rustic, robust, lovable, excellent nonvegetarian street-side food

the shop

How to go there: Take the road perpendicular to the metro line in front of the Big Hanuman statue at Karol Bagh. Keep going straight …. …….. cross all traffic lights on the way till u get a ’gol chakkar’ / roundabout. Take a right from there till u get a Police station on ur left. Keep going straight till u get a small bridge & a 4 point crossing. If u turn left u get Sadar Police station road. Look for Agarwal sweets on ur left & turn left into the gali – Quite complicated but cud not find a better way to describe.

The signboard - looks like it was last painted during farewell of Lord Mountbatten

Meal for 2: Rs. 300 onwards

as u approach the shop

Cuisine Type: Nonvegetarian

Short Description – In case u r in a hurry:

The shop is a hole in the wall, There r ‘metal sheet on metal frame’ tables on the footpath on which u r supposed to keep ur plate & eat. There is a kabadi shop right across, lots of cars parked on both sides of the narrow street & 30 odd people trying to dig into food served to them with big smiles on the faces.

crowds that r paying to get a bite on the roadsideA little effort to provide shade - sorry I forgot 2 cover that in the text

Yes, that Ashok & Ashok – known as Ashok meatwallah in the locality. ‘Choice’ is not a word they r much familiar with & ‘focus’ is the only word they seem to b knowing.

food served on tin plated metal frame tables on the footpath
