Short description- in case u r in a hurry:
1887 – just to give a perspective to those who last read history in school many years back, in 1887 calcutta was the capital of india, Gandhiji was 18 years old, tomatoes had just started to be used by Indians to sour their curries, the first automobile (vehicle propelled by an internal combustion engine) motorwagen was built by Karl Benz a year before!!!!!, horse carts, bullock carts were only vehicles on the road those days in mumbai – steam engine pulled trains had started plying decades back.
Taj ice cream has been around from that time – surely not a mean feat. Fascinating.
A board on the wall of Taj mentions the history. Not re-writing it but attaching a picture for you to take a look.
In fact on the wall is a hand drawn simplistic way of explaining how the ice creams here are made.
The beauty of ice creams at this place is the generous quantities of super good fruits and a thick, rich and creamy ice cream body. This happens as they thicken the milk and retain the cream after long hours of slow heating.
Detailed description- in case u hv the time to njoy reading:
Mango was all about Alphonso, full flavours, strong taste. Rate it 4.75/5
Lichi , Chickoo and strawberry were all delicious. Each upheld the fruit flavours very well. Rate each of them 4.5/5
Pineapple was outstanding. Super loved the pineapple chunks in the ice cream. They retained their taste and flavor so well. Rate it 4.75/5
Guava was excellent. Its color reminded of the guavas with a red core which I don’t see much these days. Rate it 4.5/5
Kesar ice cream was very close to the best kulfi I have had. Rich, creamy and great. Rate it 4.5/5
Mixed fruit was the black sheep among a bunch of stars. It was generally good but did not stand for anything. It did not have a specific point of view. Rate it 3/5
Roasted almond and chocolate chips had super crisp excellent quality almonds that gave the crunch, dark chocolate that was very YUMM and chocolate chips that played along. Rate it 4/5
While there was an option to Scootsy the ice cream home, we enjoyed sitting at this heritage place and having the ice creams one by one, as recommended by the owner…
Overall rating at Taj ice cream averages out to 4.3/5
Needless to say, Wud revisit. Best ice cream I have had in mumbai so far. I Wud still give my number one position to Mohanlal kuremal kulfiwala of delhi, followed by taj and then naturals.
Good to see that iPhone 7 Plus taking such drool-worthy pics. (In case you’re wondering how I got that info regarding the phone, don’t worry. Am not stalking you! 😈 Just downloaded one image and analyzed the EXIF data to get it.)
Thanks:)

I used to carry my camera for all food outings. That was cumbersome. Stopped doing that ever since 7+ arrived
